A Peach of an Outrage

The news was out by the people at Nintendo about the upcoming titles for the Switch's library. There were many incredible titles to hear about.

But the one that stood out the most was the Mario title for the holidays, Super Mario Odyssey.

"Looks like we have ourselves a good haul this year, huh?" Mario asked.
"People are already making a buzz about our main series title," said Luigi.
However, while everyone else was excited for it and its new setting, one character in particular was appalled by all of it.
"THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!" she shouted.
"What's wrong, Peach?" Mario asked.
"Is it because our title was held back for the holidays instead of being a launch title?" Luigi asked.
"No, that's not it!" Peach asked.
"Then what?" Yoshi asked.
"Do you know how many time I've been abducted in this series? HIGHER THAN YOU CAN COUNT!" Peach ranted. "Now, look at me! Bowser is going to force marriage onto me!"
"Didn't I already try that in Super Paper Mario?" Bowser asked.
"That was Count Bleck's ploy. That doesn't count," Peach retorted.
"Can't blame me for trying," said Bowser.
"But, you know I'll be able to stop him in time, right?" Mario asked.
"We don't know for sure. Just the fact that, once again, I am a damsel in distress, let alone having been forced marriage upon, is just sickening to me. I'm tired of it!" said Peach.

With that, Peach marched over to Shigeru Miyamoto's office to talk to him about it.
"Okay, Shigeru, we gotta talk about this plot element!" said Peach.
"What is wrong, Peach?" Shigeru asked.
"Guess."
"Oh, another abduction forced on you?"
"Look. I know that's kinda my thing, but I'm more than just a pretty face waiting to be rescued. I've proven that before!"
"Yes, but we just don't know how else to work with it."
"3D World had me as one of the playable heroes! And now look at me. Reduced to the usual role."
Peach was getting really angry about this.
"I'm sorry, Peach, but it's too late to change it. The game will be out this holiday season," Shigeru apologized.
"Fine! I'll just go and prove to everyone that I can be more than a damsel in distress!" said Peach.
With that, she stomped out in a huff.
"She'll get over it," said Shigeru.
"I don't know," said Toad. "Seemed kinda enraged to me."

Peach was standing outside the Nintendo HQ building, not wanting to work until she got what she wished for.
"Peach, I know you're upset about this, but is this really necessary?" Rosalina asked.
"Going on strike?" Daisy asked.
Peach was holding up a sign that said Nintendopes.
"If they think I'll stay reduced to this role, they have another thing coming!" said Peach.
She then started chanting.
"Don't save me from Bowser! Save me from discrimination!"
"Well, this is gonna be a problem," said Daisy.
"Indeed," Rosalina agreed.

Peach was not going back to work at Nintendo until she was given a little more respect around the place.
"They think they can just forget about all the great things I can do to help Mario instead of needing him to help me all the time. The nerve of those people!" she complained.
"So, you're really not gonna work?" Toadette asked.
"Well, if they want me to come back, they'll need to go with a few directions I had in mind," said Peach.
She held out a document of some ideas she wanted to do.
"What have you got there?" Toadette asked.
"Just a few recommendations," said Peach.
Her phone then gave a ring, with the tone playing "Peach's Birthday Cake" from the original Mario Party and she answered it.
"Hello?" she asked.
"Peach, listen. I know you're upset about your role in Odyssey, but maybe we could talk about it and see if there's anything we can do," said Shigeru.
"I think that can be arranged," said Peach.

She met with the Father of Mario in his office to discuss the matter at hand.
"So, what can we do to get you to stay here with us?" he asked.
Peach took out her document and grinned.
"I think this should be a good starter," Peach stated.
Shigeru opened it up.
"What is it?" he asked.
"A well-thought-out and organized list of conditions I would like added should I continue to work here," said Peach.

The others heard about the news from Toadette.
"So, she wants to do that?" Luigi asked.
"That's what she said. She's really gotten fed up with the whole hapless pretty face thing she's been stuck with for years. I tried to stop her, but she insisted on going through with this," Toadette explained.
"This won't end well," said Luigi.

Shigeru was looking over the list and got to condition number 5.
"You want me and Sakurai to create a Smash Bros games that consists of nothing but female characters and a change to Master Hand and Crazy Hand to look like your gloves?" Shigeru asked.
"I call it Ultra Bash Sisters," said Peach.
"But Smash Bros had female characters in it! We can't just make an all female version of it and exclude the company mascot!" said Miyamoto.
"You can and you will if you want me to continue working here," said Peach.
"Well, I can probably get by with stuff like Peach Music Studio and Super Peach Royal Quest. But I still don't know about this."
"You're gonna lose me if you don't go with it."
"But how would this even go?"
"I'm glad you asked."

Some of the games were shown in the demo lab. She placed a card into the machine and it turned on showing her in a starring role. This was Super Peach Quest. It featured her, Daisy, and Rosalina as one of three playable characters.
"Unlike Mario's games, you can choose who you want instead of just being me in single player," said Peach.
Her game had a purpose where Bowser had turned all of the Mushroom People and Mario Bros into statues. So, to save them, they need to stop Bowser, get his wand, and turn everyone back.
"And there's even some nice multiplayer action," said Peach.
This game did at least seem like a decent title there.
"Okay, I don't see any harm in this one," said Shigeru.
"I kinda like it," said Mario.
Then they came up to the final battle with Bowser where, seeing how he was no match for the ladies, ran away and dropped his wand.
"That's it?! That's the big climax battle with me? Weak!" Bowser shouted.
"Oh, it's just something I always wanted to see myself," said Peach.

The next game was Peach Bike. It was like Mario Kart, only including Peach and other female characters from the Mario franchise like Toadette, Daisy, Rosalina, Pauline, Goombella, Birdo, Wendy, Valentina, a female Pianta, a female Noki, Honey Queen, Glamdozer, and even special female guest stars like Zelda, Samus, Krystal, Lillie, the Inkling Girl and the Squid Sisters.
"Girls only?" Larry asked offended.
"What?" Peach asked.
"We have female characters in Mario's game," said Iggy.
"Yeah, but I just think it needed a nice change," said Peach.
Bowser's Castle was actually the first course, and it was actually just the standard normal loop course with no obstacle in it.
"How come my course is first?" Bowser asked.
"What's the Rainbow Road for this game like?" Yoshi asked.
"There's no Rainbow Road. My castle is the final course," said Peach.
"How can you have a Mario Kart game without a Rainbow Road finale?" Toad asked.
"I think this would answer it," said Peach.

There was also a game that featured Peach and her friends in a new Mario Party style game with Bowser spaces always having him do something nice instead of screwing over the players.
"W-w-w-w-w-WHAT IS THAT?!" Bowser roared.
"Don't you like it? I finally got you to be a bit nicer in these kinds of games," said Peach.
"Oh, now I'm the one who's outraged," said Bowser.
"So, Shigeru, can we incorporate these games into the library?" Peach asked.
"I don't know, Peach. The first one was good, but I don't know about the others," said Shigeru.
"Please?" Peach asked.
"I'm still a little..." Shigeru started.
"Fine! I'll convince you with some other titles in mind!" said Peach.

She then went ahead and started working on some other titles that she thought she could have a good role in.
"If there's one thing I can't stand, it's not having some people see the forest for the trees," said Peach.
The others were worried.
"This is not looking too good for Peach," said Luigi.
"If her games don't go through as requested, she'll quit the company," said Toad.
"But if they do, I'll be the laughingstock of the whole franchise and people will think the company's getting too feminine!" said Bowser.
"What are we gonna do, Mario?" Rosalina asked.
"The only thing we can do. Call Peach's number one fan," said Mario.

Peach was back in the demo lab and showed some games to Shigeru.
"How about this one? Peach: Zombie Slayer. I use guns to kill the undead," said Peach.
She showed herself in a more hardcore style while fending off the living dead that were heading toward her.
"Are you serious?" Shigeru asked.
"Or, how about Peach Aftershroom. A post apocalyptic Mushroom World thanks to the end caused by seven cursed items," Peach added.
The Mushroom Kingdom was completely decimated like that scene from the trailer in Sonic Forces. Only she was standing.
"Peach, this isn't what I-" Shigeru stuttered.
"Okay, if this doesn't win you over, nothing will," said Peach.
She held up a game called Peach Bowling which featured her own bowling alley and a ball that looked like a Koopa Troopa's shell and pins that looked like Bowser.
"Sorry, Peach, but I just can't-" Shigeru tried to say.
This caused Peach to grab him by his shirt and yell enraged,
"LISTEN, MIYAMOTO! I HAVE WORKED MY FINGERS TO THE BONE FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS WITH PEOPLE KNOWING ME MORE AS A STUPID PRETTY FACE WAITING FOR HER PRINCE CHARMING TO COME AND SAVE HER! THE LEAST YOU CAN DO IS GIVE ME AN EVEN BIGGER ROLE MORE OFTEN!!!"
She was furious.

She stepped out of the office, most likely to sign her resignation letter. But then, she came across a familiar face.
"Hello, Peach," he said.
"Adam?" she asked.
"So, I heard you have been hitting some tough times," said Adam.
"Yeah. Have you seen what they did to me in Odyssey?" Peach questioned.
"I have, and I can see why you're miffed. I'm not quite fond of that direction either. But I have heard that you have been trying to get your own games in the library."
"I just want to be more than just the hapless maiden, you know."
"Come. Why don't we look this over?"
"Okay."

Peach showed Adam all of her game ideas she had in mind and how they would work. Adam looked them over and was quite intrigued.
"I must say, you have some nice imagination to this. But some are better than others. I won't lie," Adam critiqued.
"Which ones did you have in mind?" Peach asked.
"Super Peach Quest has to be the best one out of all of them. And Peach Bike looks like a pretty close second," said Adam.
He wasn't particularly fond of the others, though.
"To be honest, these two are the ones I truly like. You could have done better on the others," said Adam.
"Well, at least you like some of them. I don't get why Shigeru wouldn't allow it," said Peach.
"Do you remember one game you did star in?" Adam recalled.
"That one game..." Peach stated.

She remembered it well. Super Princess Peach for the original DS. That game had her as the starring hero for a change. And it was a nice welcome idea. The only problem Peach had with the game herself was how they included her crying as one of her abilities.
"Aside from that one little nitpick, that was indeed a nice game," said Peach.
"Very true. I wish you could be like that more, but it was definitely the start of you going from your usual hostage roles," said Adam.
"If only they could do that more," said Peach. "But I'm glad I have that game and my playable appearance in 3D World."
She looked at her games again.
"Maybe I've gone a bit too far," said Peach.
"Actually, I think there's still a chance to get them in," said Adam.

They talked with Shigeru.
"So, you see, Mr. Miyamoto, Peach is only asking for something a little more heroic and exciting is all she asks," said Adam.
"I just think it'd only be fair to have my time is all I'm saying," said Peach.
"Okay, very well. If you can make a couple of tweaks to these two games..." Shigeru said as he held up Royal Quest and Bike, "...I'll approve of them."
"Excellent. And I know just what to do," said Peach.

Peach showed off the changes that were made. First was Super Peach Quest
"So, what did you change to them?" Shigeru asked.
"This I gotta see," said Adam.
"We all gotta," said Daisy.
There was a new addition to the scene with the final battle with Bowser. He was ready to fight this time, but Wario and Waluigi showed up and ran away scared right as Bowser stomped on them.
"WHAT?!" Wario and Waluigi complained.
"Now that's more like it!" said Bowser.
And Peach Bike had the roster consist of a few male characters here and there like Captain Falcon, Gladion, Kirby, and even Adam. And one of the courses was GCN Mushroom City remastered with billboards of the different playable characters, and one with Wario and Waluigi that had been doodled on. Everyone laughed at them.
"IT'S NOT FUNNY!!!" they shouted.
"Aw, quit your griping," said Bowser.
"I hereby approve of these two games," said Shigeru.
"You mean it?" Peach asked.
"I do!" said Shigeru.
He gave them approval seals and they were ready to be created.

Soon, they heard word about Peach's games coming out for the Switch in the spring of 2018.

Peach called Adam and told him the news.
"And Quest and Kart will be arriving in stores worldwide next Spring!" Peach declared.
"That's wonderful to hear," said Adam.
"This is still stupid!" said Wario.
"Yeah! Where's my game? That pink princess pansy gets all the good stuff?" Peach asked.
"What does she have that we don't?" Wario asked.
Peach took her umbrella and smacked them one on their heads with it. Daisy took a picture of that and sent it to Adam.
"Ah, some people just get jealous," said Rosalina.
"I'm just happy that I'll finally show everyone what I can really do," said Peach.
"And check out this pic I sent Adam," said Daisy.
She caught the moment with Wario and Waluigi right at the hardest point of the smack. Adam looked at it and laughed jovially.
"Oh, now that would be an awesome game cover," he said after finishing his laughter.
It just went to show that Princess Peach is not just a pretty face. She can be more than that. And hopefully, there would be more chances for her to shine in the future.
